About Us.

Girona Cycling are Fiona Smart and Gareth Speechley. They have both been involved in competitive sports for well over 20 years each. They formed Girona Cycling in 2005 and hosted their first clients in 2006. 2007 was a very busy and successful year, and have built on that every year since.

We are the Girona experts. When other training camp companies plan a camp in this area they ask for our help and guidance.

Fiona Smart PhD.

Fiona gained her PhD. in Biology at Cambridge University, in the UK. She has a thorough understanding of the body’s physiology, which enables her to have a more scientific approach to the coaching of cycling and triathlon. Fiona started skiing at 18 months and has been involved in one sporting activity or other since then. As well as being a competitive runner Fiona has excelled in triathlon and duathlon (10th in her age group in the 1998 World Championships) and has represented her country at age group world championships three times. She now concentrates on longer distance events and has raced in several Half-Ironman and Ironman events.

Gareth Speechley

Gareth started running at age 11 and after an injury moved to cycle racing at 16. He has raced throughout Europe, Australia and the USA on the road, the velodrome and in mountain bike events. He has represented his country in duathlon and triathlon at age group level. Gareth is also an expert cycling coach, a Level 2 Triathlon Coach and a qualified first-aider.

Experience

As well as their sporting experience Fiona and Gareth are also very familiar with the European and US racing and training scenes. They have lived in the US for 6 years until June 2005. Prior to that Gareth lived in Germany for two years. They now live full time at their masia in Catalonia, Spain.
